The Gods of Times Square at Monkeytown

By complete accident I got to watch "The Gods of Times Square" by Richard Sandler at Monkeytown in Williamsburg last night. Man, this movie is quite amazing: more transfixing reality that I have seen in years. A piece that every New Yorker should see, disturbing, scary and somehow very familiar if you live in this city. The whole movie is online at http://www.timessquare.com/movies/gods/

Says Richard Sandler, the filmmaker, "The Gods of Times Square is a documentary about a rich culture of religionists who are drawn to the electric buzz of this fabled human meeting ground. There, at the 'crossroads of the world', amidst it's cathedral-like spires, we arrive to profess the creeds of wildly differing varieties of personal religious experience. I am a New Yorker who loves Times Squares' diversity and grew up in the poolrooms, sideshows and arcades of the early sixties."

Scot Kaplan rocking Ohio

Our friend Scot Kaplan is about to unleash some serious joy at Mahan Gallery in Columbus, Ohio.

"On October 7th, Mahan Gallery will be transformed into the set of The Joy of Painting, the iconic PBS television series from the 1980s and '90s. Artist Scot Kaplan will create a landscape by the late TV host Bob Ross by painting live along with an episode of the show. The Exhibition will open on Tuesday, October 3, and close on Friday, October 27."

here is the gallery link http://www.mahangallery.com/artists/scot_kaplan.php

and here is some video documentation:

welcome to vertexlistblog

OK, so I am slowly figuring out how this blogging business works.
Firefox is the way to go!
Here is an installation shot from CJ's opening.

This piece is called MyTune=MyPollock and you can now check it out online at
http://www.cjny.com/myPollock-web/index.html
The 2 other installation pieces are MyData= MyMondrian and MyBirtday=MyPhilipGlass.
As you may guess these are data mapping/visualization pieces, mapping user's data into
languages of modernist masters. Stay tuned for the review in Brooklyn Rail:)
